Smart Inventors Winter 2025 Camp: 3D Design, Robotics & Engineering (week 2)

At ThinkAhead Lab, we believe the future belongs to those who can connect the dots. The Smart Inventors Winter Camp is a unique hybrid experience where digital design meets physical engineering, teaching students how to combine 3D printing, mechanics, and robotics into one creative skillset.

What Students Will Do:

  • 3D Design & Printing (The Core): Using professional CAD tools, students will design custom inventions and functional parts. This isn’t just about making toys; it’s about engineering solutions that interact with the real world.
  • Mechanical Engineering (Unplugged): Using award-winning tools like Spintronics and Turing Tumble, students dive into the “brain” of the machine. They will build mechanical circuits to understand how computers think using gears, switches, and gravity.
  • Robotics Lab: We bring everything together with Codey Rocky/Evo robots. Students will code their bots to navigate mazes and solve challenges, often using the very obstacles and attachments they designed and printed earlier in the week!

Why This Camp? Most programs teach these skills in isolation. At ThinkAhead Lab, we teach how they connect. It is the perfect blend of digital creativity, hands-on building, and coding logic.

Prerequisites: No prior experience is required! Whether your child is a master coder or a first-time maker, our curriculum scales to challenge every level.

What Parents Are Saying

“Finally, camps that aren’t just staring at a screen. My son came home holding a physical object he designed himself, explaining exactly how the 3D printer works. He was actually creating, not just consuming.” — Michelle T., Redmond

My daughter usually gets bored with standard camps, but ThinkAhead kept her challenged. She loved building mechanical circuits. It’s hard to find this level of real engineering for elementary age.” — James W., Bellevue

“Best decision we made. Picking him up and seeing the pride on his face when he showed me the robot maze he solved was priceless. He’s already asking when he can go back.” — Katherine L., Kirkland

What to Bring

We provide all laptops, robots, engineering kits, and 3D printing materials. Just bring a water bottle, a snack/lunch, and a creative mind!

Safety and Well-being

We place the highest priority on the safety and well-being of our campers. Our instructors are carefully trained to ensure a secure and supportive environment at all times. We follow strict safety protocols, particularly regarding the proper use of 3D pens and printers. All staff members are equipped with basic first-aid training and prepared to manage any health-related concerns swiftly and effectively. Our camp setting encourages inclusivity, ensuring every child feels welcome, respected, and confident to participate fully.

What Your Child Will Gain

Our camp offers young learners much more than technical skills. By participating, your child will:

STEM Teacher

Hi, my name is Sindhu, and I’m excited to guide your child through the exciting world of 3D printing and creativity! As a passionate sustainable designer and a teacher/assistant at ThinkAhead Lab, I believe there are no mistakes in art—only opportunities for unique solutions. I love inspiring kids to explore their creativity and discover their own design potential.

A little about me: On weekends, you’ll often find me traveling, hiking, or upcycling household waste into fun and functional items. I also have a love for colorful things that brighten up life! And I enjoy 3D printing miniature scale models.
Fun fact: I’m always on the lookout for cool DIY projects and ways to make old things new again!
I’m super excited to dive into a fun and creative 3D printing journey with your little innovators!
